  •   After dinner, instead of a cigarette, treat yourself to a mint or a cup of tea 
  •   Take a deep breath and exhale slowly.  Remember, the desire to smoke will pass.
  •   Learn to relax quickly and deeply.

 

  Strategies for coping with oral craving:

  • carry sugarless gum and artificially sweetened candies or mints,

  • finding other things to do with your hands like crafts, home repairs, gardening, etc., 

  • snacking on foods that require some work like unshelled nuts or seeds.

 

  Strategies for dealing with certain social situations:

  • avoiding the situation altogether if possible

  • take a walk

  • participate in a sport or activity, don’t just sit and watch.
