Schizoid Personality Disorder

Question:
I seem to have several of the schizoid personality disorder characterists. Although my primary care doctor seems to think I\'m depressed, (though I haven\'t discussed this with him). He has prescribed prozac and ativan, which help some. Is there another medication that would help more?

Reponse:
Hello,
Personality disorders are more or less permanent charachter traits and relatively less amenable to treatment. On the other hand, conditions such as depression are readily treatable. Therefore, I would suggest that you follow your doctor's advise and continue with the medications for depression.
If you are not satisfied, you could get a second opinion from a psychiatrist.
