Human Rights
& Responsibilities:
Islamic Perspective
Human rights according to the Islamic
perspective are those rights that have been granted by God. No one has the
authority to
abrogate them or withdraw them. These rights cannot be conferred,
withdrawn or violated at the whim of individuals, leaders or groups.
Islam invites humankind to
transcend the lower level of animalistic self (nafs haiwaniyah), to go beyond the
limitations fostered by kinship of blood, racial superiority, linguistic
arrogance, gender bias or economic privilege. It invites humankind to move on
to a plane of existence where, by reason of inner excellence (ihsân) they can
realize the ideal of a United Humanity.
