having a serious illness. Usually preoccupied with bodily functions, the
patient tends to misinterpret and exaggerate common signs or sensations as
serious illnesses.. ie: a common cough is seen as a sure sign of lung cancer.
- Preoccupation with the idea of having a
disease based on misinterpretation of symptoms
- Preoccupation continues even after a negating
medical evaluation
- Distress
- Impairment in social, occupational functioning
