Depression and Suicide

Suicide is the most tragic consequence of depression.  After a suicide, family and friends often say, "Sure, she was sad, but we never imagined she'd do that."

You don't have to be a physician or psychologist to recognize the warning signs of suicide. If anyone you know -- young or old -- talks about feeling hopeless or ending their life urge the person to seek help.  Don't delay and don't take it lightly.

  • "Life isn't worth living."
  • "I have no future."
  • "Maybe things would be better if I weren't around."
  • "Sometimes I just want to go to sleep and not wake up."
  • "Who do you think would come to my funeral?"
  • "I'm thinking about killing myself."
